Los estudios de asociaci\u00f3n a nivel gen\u00f3mico combinados con el rastreo de linajes clonales y ensayos cl\u00ednicos han demostrado que las respuestas inmunes innatas y adaptativas pueden promover o mitigar la aterosclerosis. Se han implicado varias v\u00edas de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n asociadas con la respuesta inflamatoria en la aterosclerosis, como el inflamasoma NLRP3, los receptores tipo Toll, la convertasa de proprote\u00edna subtilisina\/kexina tipo 9, y las v\u00edas de se\u00f1alizaci\u00f3n de Notch y Wnt, que son importantes para el desarrollo y la regresi\u00f3n de la aterosclerosis. El enfoque en las v\u00edas inflamatorias, especialmente la v\u00eda del inflamasoma NLRP3 y su citocina inflamatoria regulada interleucina-1\u03b2, podr\u00eda representar una nueva ruta atractiva para el tratamiento de las enfermedades ateroscler\u00f3ticas.
