La aterosclerosis se inicia con la activaci\u00f3n del endotelio y es seguida por una cascada de eventos (acumulaci\u00f3n de l\u00edpidos, elementos fibrosos y calcificaci\u00f3n), que desencadenan el estrechamiento de los vasos y la activaci\u00f3n de v\u00edas inflamatorias. La resultante placa de ateroma, junto con estos procesos, resulta en complicaciones cardiovasculares. Esta revisi\u00f3n se enfoca en las diferentes etapas del desarrollo de la aterosclerosis, desde la disfunci\u00f3n endotelial hasta la ruptura de la placa.
